Inn at Mystic Wedding | Michelle + Doug

Inn at Mystic Wedding {09.30.17}

I am not sure how many people have been blessed enough to have Michelle leave an imprint in their lives and on their hearts, but I have to imagine it’s in the thousands, because you simply can not meet this woman and not smile when you think of her.  Yes, she is absolutely gorgeous, and her smile is just stunning, but it is more than that.  She has an inner glow that just exudes from her.  The fact that she found someone like Doug, who perfectly matches her positive, radiant personality is just incredible.  To be in the presence of these two people and to share in their love is truly a joy.

Michelle + Doug met senior year in college, and it was the warm comfort that Michelle felt with Doug pretty much right away that let her know he was the one. His love for his family, and younger brother in particular, made Michelle feel like they shared the same values, and that she could trust him with her heart. I think we could all agree she was absolutely correct.  They knew they were going to spend their lives together well before the actual proposal, but when it happened it was exactly “them”, exactly how Michelle wanted it: just the two of them.  I loved that they wanted to do their engagement session in sort of the same way.  We did the photos in their apartment, and it was so great to be able to capture them as who they are when they are most comfortable.  We had beautiful light, and a couple of hours together of them just snuggling and hanging with Gracie, their adorable cat.

No matter how excited that engagement session had me for the wedding, nothing could have prepared me for how amazing the day was going to be.  When I arrived to the Haley Mansion at the Inn at Mystic, the weather was dicey.  It was calling for a break in the rain that day, but that never really came.  The staff and Michelle’s mom did everything they could to try and make an outdoor ceremony happen but in the end Mama Nature just had other plans.  I have always been a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and I know it must be hard to imagine on your wedding day that the rain is for a reason, but the first thing I thought of was how warm and inviting and lovely it was to have all of their guests all cozied up under the heated tent instead of spread out on the lawn.  Then I remembered their engagement session and how they wanted it in their home.  And this was the closest thing you could get to having all of your guests inside of your living room.  But it was definitely the fact that the rain lightened up exactly in time for Doug and Michelle’s portrait time that really confirmed that this was exactly the day they were meant to have. The light was beautiful with soft rain falling, and then… the most picture perfect rainbow I have ever seen appeared.  It was THE most fitting symbol for Michelle: survive the rain and be rewarded with a rainbow.

I can’t say enough about these two, and I know they will continue finding their rainbow at every turn.
