There are some wedding days that just feel incredibly easy to photograph. Nina and Nick’s wedding at Stone Acres Farm was one of those days.
From the very beginning, their day felt personal, relaxed, and full of so much love. There were beautiful details, gorgeous florals, a packed dance floor, and plenty of moments that made me stop and think, “Yep, this is why I love photographing weddings.”
And honestly, Nina and Nick have the sweetest story.
Nina and Nick actually went to high school together, although they were two grades apart. Nick has a very specific memory of meeting Nina at a concert back then. Nina, on the other hand, has absolutely no memory of it.
Years later, Nick popped up on Nina’s Hinge profile. She decided to give him a chance, even though she admits she was pretty terrible at dating apps. Apparently, her one-word answers during their first week almost did him in. Luckily, her friends convinced her to give him a real shot. The rest, as they say, is history.
Their first date was lunch at Zenellis, a small pizza spot in New Haven’s Wooster Square. They sat outside, ordered their own pizzas, and talked for hours. Nina remembers feeling immediately comfortable with Nick, almost like she had known him forever. That feeling seems to have followed them through every stage of their relationship.
If there is one thing I love about Nina and Nick’s story, it is how perfectly imperfect it all is. Nick describes the proposal as his “nightmare,” mostly because he had to hide the ring for an entire weekend while they were attending Nina’s best friend’s wedding.
The plan was supposedly a sunset proposal at their lake house in Maine. Nina even had a feeling something was coming because Maine was already such a special place for them. Instead, Nick proposed in the living room. Nina had just woken up from a nap after getting very little sleep and driving several hours. It was raining outside, garlic was sautéing on the stove, and the sink was running. In her words… “classic Nick!” Honestly, it sounds pretty perfect to me.
Afterward, they spent the next few hours crying and calling their family and friends. Nick even made Nina’s recently deceased grandfather’s classic spaghetti and marinara recipe. They ate together and celebrated their engagement while remembering someone they loved. It was intimate, emotional, funny, and completely them.
Their wedding day at Stone Acres Farm carried that same feeling.
Everything was beautiful, but the moments between the big moments were what stood out to me most. The little glances. The hugs. The laughter. The happy tears. The way Nina and Nick looked at each other throughout the day. Those are the photographs I always find myself drawn to.
Rebel Rose Floral brought the floral vision to life, adding beautiful texture and romantic details throughout the day. Nina looked incredible in her Lotus Bridal NYC gown, while her bridesmaids brought their own mix of style with looks from Revelry, Birdy Grey, and Show Me Your Mumu. For hair and makeup, the team at Posh Pallete Artistry and Simply Gorgeous by Erin helped bring everything together. Nick and his groomsmen looked equally sharp, with Nick wearing Tom James Company and the groomsmen in Black Tie.
But once the ceremony was over, it was time to celebrate. And Nina and Nick had already warned us that they take wedding dance floors very seriously. They did not disappoint. With Groove Authority keeping the party going, the dance floor was exactly where they wanted to be. There was so much energy, so much laughter, and the kind of reception moments that make you wish the night could last just a little longer.
The celebration came together with food and cake from 85th Day Food Community, beautiful rentals from Peak Rentals, and a Sperry Tent that created the perfect setting for the evening.
One of my favorite things about Nina and Nick is that neither of them can point to one giant moment when they knew the other was “the one.” It happened slowly. It happened through showing up for each other. Through choosing each other. Through all of the tiny moments that eventually became a life together. Nina said that Nick kept showing up in every stage of their relationship. He became her partner, her person, and someone she could picture building a whole life with.
And that future sounds pretty wonderful. A piece of land. Kids running around. Dogs. A garden. Maybe chickens or a mini horse. Lots of family dinners, travel, laughter, and plenty of good food. That kind of love is exactly what I want my photographs to preserve. Not just what a wedding looked like, but what it felt like to be there.
Nina and Nick, thank you for letting me document such a meaningful day. Your Stone Acres Farm wedding was beautiful in every way, but getting to photograph the two of you being completely yourselves was my favorite part. Here’s to a lifetime of dance floors, spaghetti dinners, big dreams, and all of the little moments in between.
