Mystic Museum of Art Wedding {07.14.2018}
“Sto lat, sto lat, Niech żyje, żyje nam…”
If you’ve never heard this before, let me introduce you to one of the most joyful Polish traditions: a song that wishes the newlyweds a hundred years of health and happiness. And yes—Julie + Roger’s guests sang it loud after their ceremony, filling the air with laughter, love, and some seriously good energy.
This Mystic Museum of Art wedding was packed with heart, heritage, and a whole lot of fun. Julie + Roger live in Chicago now, but chose to bring 170 of their favorite people to the Connecticut coast to celebrate. Their day was sweet, soulful, full of intentional details, and anchored by the love of both family and friends (plus one very cute dog named Belle).
Family stories woven into every detail…
Julie’s engagement ring features a diamond from her grandmother’s ring. Her brother wore their grandfather’s cufflinks. And the slate used in their centerpieces? It was hand-cut by her late grandfather—who worked in the slate business until he was 90 years old. These details were so much more than decor—they were legacy, love, and quiet nods to those who helped shape the couple.
Family showed up in every corner of the day. Belle, their sweet pup, proudly wore an “I do too” leash. Julie’s grandmother figure, Alice, was there beaming with pride. And Roger’s side? A giant, joy-filled Polish family who knew exactly how to keep the party going all night long.
Chicago meets mystic charm…
Though their wedding was in Connecticut, Julie + Roger brought some of their Chicago spirit along for the ride. Ivy’s Simply Homemade served Chicago-style hot dogs during cocktail hour (yes, they were a hit). The couple’s jazzy reception was powered by Shaded Soul Band, whose soulful energy kept the dance floor packed.
Their officiant? Roger’s best friend Griffin, who flew in on Spirit Airlines more than once just for these two. In his ceremony speech, he joked about the less-than-luxurious flights—but made it clear: he wasn’t coming for the city. He was coming for them. (Cue the tears.)
Art, heart + happily ever after!
There’s just something about a riverside wedding at the Mystic Museum of Art—especially when it’s filled with so much laughter and love. Julie + Roger’s laid-back, deeply personal celebration was a perfect reflection of who they are: warm, funny, and madly in love.
From Belle’s leash to the family slate, from the jazz to the vows, everything about this day felt intentional and full of heart. And even though it took a Spirit flight to get there, they managed to create a wedding day that felt like home.
Julie + Roger—thank you for letting me document your love. You two are pure joy, and I cannot wait to see what your next chapter holds.
