Grace + Josh’s Beautiful Day on the Connecticut Coast

There is something so special about a wedding day that feels completely true to the couple. Grace and Josh’s wedding at Branford House was exactly that. It was romantic, relaxed, and full of those little in-between moments that make a wedding gallery feel like more than just a collection of pretty photos.

As a Mystic, Connecticut wedding photographer, I love getting to photograph weddings along the Connecticut coast. Branford House is one of those places that makes that especially easy. The historic architecture, coastal setting, and gorgeous light give every part of the day such a beautiful backdrop.

But honestly, it was the emotion of Grace and Josh’s day that made it so memorable.

From Co-Workers to Forever

Grace and Josh met at work. Their desks were close together, so talking throughout the day quickly became part of their routine. It was a pretty natural transition from co-workers to something more.

Their first date was December 3, 2022. Josh invited Grace to Murphy’s, an Irish pub in Alexandria, Virginia, with some friends. The plans ended up becoming a night with just the two of them. They had so much fun that they made plans to see each other again the very next day.

I love that there wasn’t one dramatic moment when Grace knew Josh was the one. She said it was more of a conclusion she kept coming back to from the beginning. She couldn’t imagine her future without him.

Josh felt it growing, too. While they were still co-workers, they tried to keep their relationship a secret. Apparently, they weren’t particularly good at that. When Josh asked Grace to describe where they were on a scale from strangers to married, she jokingly answered, “co-workers.”

A few months later, Josh changed jobs to better accommodate their relationship. That’s when things started to feel much more serious.

A Proposal in a Place That Meant So Much

For Josh, Watch Hill had always been special. It was a place he visited with his family growing up, and he continued returning whenever he was home in Connecticut.

He brought Grace there early in their relationship. She quickly fell in love with the area, too. They returned year after year, especially to the Ocean House.

So when their plans finally lined up with the Ocean House Fourth of July celebration, Josh knew it was the perfect opportunity. His plan had been to propose there all along. And just like that, a place that already held so many memories became the setting for one of their biggest ones.

It felt like the perfect beginning to their next chapter.

A Beautiful Branford House Wedding Day

Their wedding day brought everything together in such a beautiful way. Grace and Josh wanted a day centered around celebrating their relationship with the people they love.

And that is exactly what it felt like.

From getting ready moments to portraits, the ceremony, and a packed dance floor, there was so much emotion woven throughout the day. I loved photographing the quiet moments just as much as the big ones. The quick glances, the hugs, the laughter, and the moments where they could simply take everything in.

The coastal setting of Branford House was the perfect backdrop for their celebration. With beautiful florals by PQ Farm Flowersand thoughtful details throughout the day, everything felt elegant without losing that relaxed feeling.

Grace got ready with Smudge, and her bridal look came together beautifully with her gown from Ellie’s Bridal Boutique. Her bridesmaids wore Birdy Grey, adding to the soft, timeless feel of the day.

Behind the scenes, DWP Events helped bring everything together. Guests enjoyed catering from Kelli’s Kitchen, followed by a beautiful cake from Russo’s Italian Pastry Shop. Ignition Band kept the celebration going, which made for some seriously fun reception moments.

The little details were beautifully handled by Tucker’s Party Rental and Petals & Plates, too.

And of course, I was so happy to be there documenting it all for them as Love, Sunday.

The Beginning of Their Next Chapter

When Grace talked about what she was most looking forward to, her answer was simple. She wanted a whole day to celebrate the two of them.

That feels like such a fitting way to describe their wedding.

They aren’t people who naturally want to be the center of attention. Yet their wedding gave them permission to slow down, look around, and really take in the people and the love surrounding them.

And now they get to do the rest of life together.

They hope to have kids if they are able to, travel more, and eventually grow old together. There will be busy seasons and probably plenty of unexpected ones, too. But if their wedding day was any indication, they already have the kind of connection that makes those seasons feel a little easier.

Grace and Josh, it was such an honor to photograph this chapter for you. Your Branford House wedding was full of the kind of moments I love most. The ones that feel effortless, emotional, and completely yours.
